Debra Medina

Texas has always been a state where things always seemed a little bigger, brighter; where anything was possible – usually on a grander scale than anywhere else, if at all possible. A place where one felt they had no limits on the size and scope of their dreams, nor on the dreams themselves. What has this to do with Debra Medina? Well, in December 2009, Medina filed on the Republican ballot for the 2010 Texas gubernatorial race. As of today, she is pushing hard to be in a two-way run off with current Texas Governor Rick Perry for the the final heat of “winner take all” in the GOP gubernatorial race for the very real chance of becoming Texas Governor.

And yes, Debra has a dream. To return the state of Texas (and by extension, the Republican party) back to it’s roots. Smaller government, the return of power from the federal level back to that of the state[s]. To hold to, and follow, the Constitution, as it was written. To reform the tax laws in Texas.

If it sounds like she would be someone the “Tea Party” might willingly embrace, you would be correct. Medina has developed quite the following among those who either lean toward or out and out follow the tea party movement which has spread across the nation. And because of this (along with her plain speaking, well thought out responses for her positions, and engaging demeanor), she has gained national notoriety.

If I were still residing in the Great State of Texas ™ , I would not only give her my vote, but would actively campaign for the lady. She strikes me as the real deal.

As we constantly decry the current political system, that it is only producing the same “cookie cutter” politicos (from either party), that the will and voice of the people is getting little more then lip service from same … here is your chance to help change that. I imagine Medina is not perfect, but she is far and away better than anyone else currently out there (at least as far as Texas goes), and strikes me as legitimately deserving of a chance to prove to this generation that “just plain folks” using common sense, and a reasonable amount of intelligence, can hold the office of Governor (in the second largest economic state in the Union).

Wife, mother, nurse, rancher, business women, budding “statesmen” …. governor? Debra Medina has dreams, as big and as grand as the state of Texas. Here’s hoping she is able to realize her biggest one of all.

… And listening to one of the local “talk radio shows”, the discussion turned (on the show) turned to the current status of the Lockerbie bomber. You might remember this fellow, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi; he was the one who masterminded the December 1988 blowing up of Pan-Am flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland, resulting in the killing of all 243 passengers, 16 crew, and 11 people on the ground.

Last August, Scotland, in what they have spun as “an act of charity”, released Megrahi from prison. This was because it was thought Megarhi had “only three months to live”, due to a supposed (advanced) case of Prostate cancer. He had been serving a 27 year sentence. He was given a “humanitarian release”, and returned to Libya. Once there, he received a hero’s welcome, and soon found himself living in the lap of luxury.

There is reason to believe Megrahi does not, in fact, suffer from any sort of cancer what so ever. (refer to the link above for starters) That this was a ruse perpetrated by both Libya and the Scottish government. The fact is Megrahi is still alive and well, at least six months after his release, some three months longer than he was supposedly given to live.

A couple of recommendations from this old retired Sailor:

1. Islam (depending on the sect) either tacitly tolerates, or out and out condones lying. This is in either of two forms;

(Al-)Taqiyya – Saying something that isn’t true.

Kitman – Lying by omission. An example would be when Muslim apologists quote only a fragment of verse 5:32 (that if anyone kills “it shall be as if he had killed all mankind”) while neglecting to mention that the rest of the verse (and the next) mandate murder in undefined cases of “corruption” and “mischief.”

So it shouldn’t be too surprising when it is found out this piece of filth is cancer free.

2. Compassion can be shown in many ways. If we posit that cancer, especially in it’s later/final stages is by it’s very nature cruel and punishing to any who suffer from it, than by all means let’s show compassion. But I would humbly suggest in the case of Megarhi, giving him a hot lead injection right between the eyes, would have been a true act of compassion. It would have been a quick painless end to his suffering, and brought some closure to the families of all those who perished in the act of terrorism Megarhi perpetrated.

3. Though we will most likely have to wait until the current ass-clown circus of an administration is out of office (along with the confederacy of dunces in both houses of Congress), before there is any chance of doing so, what say we send a couple dozen high mega-tonnage bombs in the direction of Libya, and this fella’s villa. We would be showing compassion by the very act of letting Megarhi tell allah (small a intentional) personally how much it was an honor to kill so many infidels in his name.

But that’s just me thinking out loud. What do ya’ll think. Am I being to kind and compassionate here?

A Birthday Wish

Wrote this two years ago. The oldest is now working in Az, and by all accounts is doing well.

I vaguely remember what life was like when I was 28 years old. Called Texas home back then. Managed a pizzeria, was also a “weekend warrior” in the Naval Reserves. Was making around three hundred dollars a week, and owned a home. We were bitching that gas was heading towards a dollar a gallon, and cigarettes were better than 50 cents a pack. But Reagan was President, the Carter years safely behind us, and we were trying our best to be “that shining city on the hill” the President oft-times proclaimed us to be.

The future was looking bright (or at least much better than it had just a few short years prior to that). And there was nothing but “air and opportunity” ahead.

Now my oldest is at that same point in time in his life. On the positive side he has his health, and a steady job. But oh how things have changed.

We still had the Russians to contend with. He has the growing threat of Islam. (Overtly, through the actions of the various “radical elements”, Covertly, via the passive actions/inactions of any number of the rank and file faithful; your “practicing Muslims”.)

We had rising prices, but there was a growing economy (and stock market) as well. Stephen has rising prices, and (thanks to corruption in government and corporate board rooms) a shrinking economy and a shrinking dollar.

We had (at least at that point in time) a government which at least spoke of the intent to try and shrink it’s presence in the daily goings on of Americans. As well as not taking as much out of our wallets. Stephen can look forward to more and more of his hard earned monies going straight to the feds. He will also see an ever increasing amount of personal rights and liberties being eaten away by those in government at all levels.

Where we at least had the hope of redressing our grievances via the ballot box. That one was (at least apparently) able to interact with ones elected representatives. Now it seems we are on a course which will either lead to some sort of totalitarian/authoritarian state OR massive secession of States from the Union OR out and out revolution/rebellion. None of these choices bode well for my son (or his brothers and any others of his and future generations).

Still, there is always the chance “things will find a way of balancing out”. (Don’t ask me how, cause I don’t know.) I hope Stephen will be able to look back from the same vantage point I am looking back from now, and see his (and his country’s) darkest hours are behind him. That on his 54th birthday (celebrated with family and friends) he will be able to look at his children, smile and say; “We made plenty of mistakes, but on the whole what we are passing on to your generation, is better than what was passed on to us.”

If I had any birthday wish to give you which could come true, having you able to say the above, would be it.
Happy Birthday Stephen!!!

Everyday Ports of Call.

If you happen to have a person of the liberal/progressive persuasion toss out the “liberal talking point” that “all conservatives are knuckle dragging, monosyllabic, PBR drinking, bible thumping, evolutionary throwbacks, force them to visit direct them to any of the fine folks on the daily read list on the the right hand side of this bit of fluff on the net.

There are at least two full fledged engineers there, along with folks of other disciplines. All are well read, intelligent, and have an excellent command of the language. They all also get it; that this country is in serious trouble from without and within. Based on their writings, all appear to be passionate about what they believe in, not devoid of feelings. But they (and I) differ, from those who would act (or have others act for them) purely based on feelings. They rely on reason and logic to carry the day.

I have tried to keep this particular group reasonably small, after all there are only so many hours available in which to enjoy what these folks have to say, and I am hard pressed to get to all of them already. Still, lists have a way of growing, and this one is no exception. To that end, please welcome to new additions. One, which was already on the blog roll (of those sites “you try to get to as often as possible”) that I have found myself visiting daily; “Hookers and Booze”. The title is a bit misleading, there is much more discussed there than women of dubious virtue or adult beverages. And it is all delightfully presented and hosted by “Armed Geek” and the vivacious “Aggie”. The second, “Rage Against The Kakistocracy”, appears to be as clear headed and as well reasoned as they come. Anyone who understands what the Constitution is all about, and the obligation of ALL elected officials to honor their oaths of office to the letter, is alright in my book, and always welcomed here.

Check all of them out, you will not be disappointed.

I know exactly how he feels

There is commentary from NOW and other liberal outlets, about the ad CBS allowed to run for the upcoming Super Bowl, done by Tim Tebow and his mother. That all these folks profess to be “pro choice” when they are anything but, is an understatement of monumental proportions.

Personally, I think that “choice” should be up to the individual (and kept at the state level btw), their own conscience, and/or the deity of their choosing. (This is also assuming we are talking about something done within the first month or so after conception, but that is a topic for another day.) Now let’s be serious about it. Real choice should be exactly that, allowing an individual, after having all the facts given to them, about the positive and negative outcomes of any option taken, being allowed to freely make their own intelligent decision, based on those facts.

Sounds like that is what Tebow’s mom did all those years ago. And so did another, much less famous, but just as heroic woman. Her story is here. And yes, I know exactly how Tim Tebow feels.
